adventures in dyeing

yarn-dyeing adventures happened this past weekend! I've been wanting to dye yarn for ages, but could never bring myself to spend $100+ at a time for the bulk order of yarn. but my friend ting said she would split an order with me, so we each got 5 skeins. she came over on sunday and we dyed a ton of yarn together. here are my five skeins:

and here are my some of my favorites by ting. that girl turned out to be a genius at this!

a photo of all of them together:

this yarn dyeing thing is definitely going to happen again. we might even start up a little etsy shop together—since both of us are in that awkward, job-seeking-but-not-finding phase, we were thinking maybe we could sell some yarn for a bit of extra cash? we'll see!

  1. pretties! did you guys use kool-aid, food coloring, or acid dyes?

they look very nice; can think of names for most of them already!

    1. we used food coloring! because we felt like kool-aid was mostly reds, and we still wanted to be able to use the pots for food in the future so we didn't want acid dyes.

don't know about my friend, but I've named all of mine except the one that looks pink and brown in the pictures (it's more of a blue-gray in real life). the names are Pineapple Breeze, Pondish, Unicorn Hairs, and Copper Crocus. c:

    1. you totally should! it's so much fun, and you can do it with just food coloring and a microwave or an oven or a pot on a stove. or all three, as my friend and I did, haha.

Loving the way you had them posed on the white fur. It's like an 80s glamour shot xD

    1. thanks!
my sister left all her stuff at my apartment for the couple of months before she can move into her new place, so I've been using all her neat stuff, including the lovely fur rug, hehe.
