hold that pot

I've admired all the prettiness from the annual potholder swap since the first year it happened, but this is the first time that my interest in crocheting and the swap have coincided. I think I phrased that badly. but anyway, this is the first year that I am participating in the swap (!!!).

I looked for patterns for a long time, but I just wasn't totally happy with any of the things I saw out there. I knew what I wanted to do for the backing—something simple, inspired by the beautiful work of at swim-two-birds—but I was stuck for what to do for the fronts of my potholders.

well, this is what I came up with in the end. I decided to make up my own pattern. kind of just winged it, really. and then went back the next day and stared at my crocheting to try to figure out what I did and write down the pattern. I'm pretty happy with these, though. they're not too lacy—feminine without being marie-antoinettish, open enough to see the colors of the backing behind, but not so open that you'd get your fingers burnt.

can't wait to start the backings! although I get kind of nervous whenever I think about color combinations. but with a bit of luck and perseverance, hopefully they'll turn out just as lovely as these fronts.

p.s. I watched norwegian wood yesterday. mostly because mizuhara kiko is in it, and she is the the second cutest girl in the world. or the third. anyway, she's pretty high up there. the movie wasn't all that great, but kiko is adorable and perfect.
